Click Through Layers

  • When objects are stacked on each other, clicking normally selects the topmost item.
  • Hold Command (Mac) or Control (Windows) and click again to select the next item down in the stacking order — repeat to click through each layer beneath.
  • Once a lower-layer object is selected, you can change its opacity, stroke, fill color, or stacking order via the Object menu without moving anything.
  • Use the arrow keys to move a lower-layer object while it’s selected.
  • To drag a lower-layer object with the mouse, hold Command/Control and click and hold without releasing. Releasing the mouse button resets your selection back to the top item on the next click.
